Life speeds along with watercolour and art becoming more and more apart of me and who I am.
I think, eat and breath it!
I love the word 'watercolour' in print; a half pan sitting on the kitchen table makes me 'fizz'; the way my loaded brush connects with the paper; watching the pigments travel into one another....

But my intensity of love that I have for these gems and the constant exploring into their 'lives' has brought me confusion within my approach. No longer do I desire to use marks over them with a black line - the watercolour journey is exciting enough or is it??? Thus I 'play' - no studious paintings...."but it is good to play" they say...or is it? A balance is desired!

Pigments - a confusion; such a plethora of colours and all so beautiful - which to choose for my palette that is constantly changing (except for the treasures)!

August 2017 - out in The New Forest

Both above and below were ideas for a @Rum's Eg Christmas card competition.

Sadly not used but appreciated!

Holiday for two - St Mawes

Practice for my next book - The New Forest

We would pop over on the little boat for breakfast, a wander then a crab sandwich for lunch.
Lovely memories!

'Berries' - watercolour and charcoal

 Playing in my sketch book
Watercolour and rotring pen.
I find the line of these pens too constant. Not enough variation in line!

Travelling to London to visit our lovely son.
This is one of my 'moment in time' watercolour and pen.
moleskin sketchbook and cycling watercolour kit!

Playing with new paper.. A scene of New York

I bought these paint to try out. They are lovely, in that the size of the pans are huge and so cater for a nice big loaded watercolour brush. The consistancy of the paint is excellent!
The negative side is that they do a very limited range of colours. Worth trying!

Beautiful soup @rumseg
Do visit! - in Romsey Hampshire

Playing with my watercolours at Coach House Studio for Hampshire open Studio.
Funnily enough I sold it!

More playing with my watercolours at Coach House Studio for Hampshire open Studio.
I love hogweed. so hard to paint though...

Playing at abstract....watercolour and variety of ink pens.

Again - trying out my watercolours so playing!!!!

I was given some new watercolour tubes for my birthday!
Exciting but confusing...
Losing the ability to add pen!!!!!!

A trial at using acrylics from warm to cool...on board!
never was a bright coloured person but actually thoroughly enjoyed doing this!

I was invited to do a watercolour and charcoal demonstration. Have you ever tried to explain 'what and why' when you are painting?
Think about explaining when driving why and what for...
I enjoyed doing it although stressful and have accepted another in 2019.

A card for a friend!

I drove this road over twenty-seven years ago with our one year old daughter.
We were just moving to Hampshire from London.
I have always loved the view!!!!

 Birdwatching with my boy!

My third book (joint with a friend) is out... money is for Romsey Riverwalk Restoration Project.

Second book.
This is a children's book in rhyme about a lonely pony in The New Forest... a lovely little story!

This was my first book.
A circuit walk around my village. I have sold over 200....

You will find them all for sale at Rum's Eg Romsey.

My fourth book is to be The New Forest... watch this space!
-------------------------------------------------

My latest work.
Someone had a birthday and so as per usual I relate it to our life at the moment.
Thirty-seven Meets, birthday, Christmas, wedding anniversary, valentine cards. One day I shall put his and hers into a book for a keepsake. They are very special...so this birthday was 62!

An evening walk,  with our neighbours, to hear the nightjar on the Forest.
Absolutely fabulous. We saw them as well and except for the midgies it was lovely to do. We have lived here twenty-seven years and never experienced it before. Sad but good to have now gone!
Next the woodpeckers....

'Three Girls go Walking' went on a trip to Jekka's Herb Farm and had a magic time. Below are the few little 'moments in time' travel sketches I produced.
I absolutely adored doing the botanical ones. Is my 'Headspace' ...so relaxing!

Do visit Jekka's Herb Farm.
It is only open on certain days so look at their website!
So....back when I have more to add!

It has been a while but here is my recent updates of cards, travel sketches and a painting trip to Venice!

This is my lovely neighbour whose birthday it was ... practicing her moves!

It was our 37th 'Meets' Anniversary and my card to my boy depicts our years together...

This actually was a commission. It was very much appreciated!

On to Travel sketches or 'A moment in time...'
My lovely son and his lady!

This is achieved on my iPhone....Us sitting having fun in Cornwall. A very special place and time!

A view from the beach... towards Mevagissey we walk!

On my phone - me in bed - alone!!!!! Long story!

Phone again and another view of the cliffs towards Mevagissey!

Son and daughters boyfriend having a chat....

The church at the Salisbury Hockey Club by Skew Bridge.

This was a quick demonstration for my watercolour class to show them how to use the paint more wet on wet! A bit dark on the middle boat...

I have been very spoilt having been to New York as I had the opportunity to go on a painting holiday in Venice for a week. the sketches are not particularly great but I was trying different media mixes!

From my phone - a rather vibrant rendition of Venice...

This is in my moleskin sketch pad (A5) Not too keen but enjoyed by others.
funny lot us Artists. Never satisfied!

On the island of Torchello about 45 minutes boat ride from the main part of Venice.
Practicing my people....

A watercolour of the view on the opposite bank on the Canal.
Canalletto  depicted Venice exactly as you see it.
It was a wondrous place!!!

Some of the Artists concentrating...

St Marks Square was fabulous. Such beautiful architecture!

Watercolour pencil with a bit of spittle... but fun!

Pencil and watercolour.

This fabulous watercolour was achieved by a guy called Nicola Tenderini.
I have used the internet to get a stencil of his work as I wished to try his colour palette!

This is my trial. It was great fun and a good learning curve!

There you have it! I hope you enjoy the collection. Do correspond if you wish to comment!

About Me

My photo
Art has always been an integral part of my life. At the age of 50 I was able to complete a long awaited foundation course and HNC/HND. From this experience I have developed my love of pastel and watercolour. Rubens has always inspired me with his fluidity of movement; Degas and Lautrec I admire with their rough marks and blends of colour, their freshness of approach. I feel I have been given a talent for a reason and gradually the purpose shall unfold... sarah.orchard54@hotmail.co.uk Note: Images are Copyright Sarah Orchard © 2009
